I think the difference would be that you did things to your 283 because
you could do them year-round in Lousiana. In Illinois during the winter,
you're looking for things to do in-doors. Plus I had a desire to 'know'
these things. That didn't change when I moved to Seattle and even when I
got to San Diego.

Like Tom was saying, you can get a 'no-code' HAM license and apply
for that callsign thru their 'vanity' program.

After years of upgrading and trying to get a call sign that I liked thru
the normal FCC methods and getting no-where, I applied for my present
callsign thru their 'vanity' licensing program. K6RXT reflects part of my
'Elmers' callsign, K6XT. He likes to use 'Xtra Terrific' to phonetically
make it clear over the air, and I use 'Really Xtra Terrific'...K5RXT is
available here in Texas and I've been thinking of changing to that one.
