I fly too, I'll admit a car (or boat for that matter) takes a lot less
work and expertise to set up to bash around the back yard.
RACING, on the other hand is a whole different story. To really be
fast and competitive on a regular basis, especially on a multitude of
different surfaces and tracks, requires as much expertise as sport
flying in my opinion. Race car setup, including motor choice and tuning,
chassis setup, and batteries have evolved into a science. Gas racing has
it's own problems the racer has to deal with and overcome. The races in
your area may not be on the same competitive level as in others. Around
here, we have the two-time 1/8 scale national gas champ, and several
guys who have made the A-mains in various classes at the WORLD'S to deal
with.
Competitive flying, as in racing and pattern stuff is a whole different
story.
... What this country needs is more unemployed politicians.
