| subject: | My BBS access |
In case anyone is interested in my roundabout BBS access... I'm still using a 486 DX2-50 with 20megs of RAM and a 2gig HD. MS-DOS 6.22 and Win 3.11, a 33.3k modem. I use Procomm Plus v2.01 for DOS in VT-100 emulation to connect to the local library computer server for their free internet connection, using their online Lynx text based browser. If I want to see graphics, I have to download them. I can read the text on frames sites, just not see the formating. Forget JAVA script. I use telnet to access BBSNETS BBS and download/upload packets. I live in Portland, OR, which is in Multnomah County, which has the library system that allows this. BBSNETS BBS is in Hawaii and is only accessible over the internet. The county I live in has a library with a good computer internet connection, but a poor video/DVD selection. The neighboring county has no outgoing internet connection, except the normal computer terminal at the library, but has a video/DVD selection to put Hollywood/Blockbuster to shame, especially in the anime DVD hybrid selection. So far, for the month of March, they have 224 new DVDs. I haven't checked the list of new VHS tapes. Multnomah County check out of videos is 3 weeks. Neighboring county is 7 days, renewable if someone else hasn't reserved the title.
