The Great Lakes area you were in is well documented as one of the coldest
parts in that neck of the woods. Cold air moving over cold water or ice
isn't exactly a South Pacific sea breeze. Not to mention that the 'lake
effect' on temps and precipitation is also well known. Hard to say though
that Montana winters are any warmer since there too they get the arctic
air masses that Chicago gets and the lattitude is that much further north
than Chicago. I doubt it. To hear the boys in Saskatchewan and Alberta
tell it, it gets mighty cold up there.
