In a message dated 09-15-96, Bill Grimsley said to Michael Raiteri:

MR> Telstra are certain that it is not my phone lines (see
MR> other message "noisy
MR> lines") and that it must be my equipment. This takes me back to my
MR> original statement some weeks ago that I reckon my modem is a lemon.

MR> SNR (dB) 32

MR> SNR (dB) 31

BG>You have S/N ratios as low as 31db and Telstra still reckon your line is OK?
BG> They obviously have no idea what they're talking about.
BG>Unless you're seeing 38db or better, you won't be getting
BG>any 33600 connects, regardless of the modem in use. As I
BG>said before, your lines are definitely dodgy. QED.

As I mentioned previously the SNR ratios vary. This is the result of the last
call to David's BBS (to pick up this mail actually :) )

OK

As you can see the NSR is 38 yet the best I could do was 26400. Transfer rates
do vary was well, I got 3319 (David's figures) from the first lot of mail and
2779 for the second. I constantly get this pausing even though I have &k0. Its
annoying in the extreme.

Still haven't been able to get through to Dynalink lately, their phones are
constantly engaged, so it's no words of wisdon from them :^

Cheers
Mike
