The significant point is that the need for a steamer to get frequent
ntensive
maintenance, seriously limits the availability and performance of steamers.
And the corresponding needs for a diesel are so much easier, that the brief
loco downtime is easily coordinated with other activities like traffic
demands,
convenient service timetabling and train preparation etc.
Maybe there is a Tooth Fairy?
