subject: TEMPERATURE SENSITIVITY

PT>I have a patient I'd like a bit of help with:
PT> Full neuro exam, blood work, thyroid check, etc are all entirely
PT>normal. He is slight of frame and slender. Serial oral temps are
PT>all normal and in a close range, no matter if he feels hot or
PT>chilled.
PT> I can come up with three possible causes:
PT> 1) a small lacunar infarct somewhere in the hypothalamus
I would think this would have more to do with temperature REGULATION
and you say the serial temps have been fine. What we seem to have here is
more an issue of temperature SENSATION or interpreation.
I am not sure exactly where (if anywhere) this tangent might take
you(g).
PT> 3) Obsessive-Compulsive D/O or some other "functional"
PT> diagnosis.
Not terribly unusual in that age. Any signs of dementia, etc. ?
PT>Anyone have any thoughts? He's quite demanding, and I've done all
PT>I can think of (serum testosterone levels are pending)
