I pretty much ignore the holidays - except for the food.  Been that way the 
past 45 years or so.  When I was working I did volunteer to work, and sometimes
work extra, so that others in the shop (who *didn't* ignore the holidays) could
have the time off.  Remember that on Thanksgiving and Christmas both, Archbishop
Bergan Mercy Hospital provided a free dinner to the staff on duty - I'm not entirely
altruistic (and Alegent Health - locally referred to as 'Alleged Health' - which took
over the hospital in late 1995, most likely did away with that little
benefit; Alegent is
far more concerned with reducing costs than with providing top quality care, which
is the main reason I left the company in early 1997).
