From NewsByte.... ====================================================================== ATLANTA, GEORGIA, U.S.A., 1996 SEP 12 (NB) -- By Bob Woods. Two days after rumors hit Wall Street about US Robotics developing a modem that breaks the 33.6 Kbps (kilobits per second) barrier, Hayes Microcomputer says it plans to offer 56 Kbps technology in its modems and server products in 1997. In addition, US Robotics shares climbed again today as analysts said they are now convinced the Skokie, Illinois-based company is close to releasing a 56 Kbps modem. ======================================================================= 56 Kbps Fever - Boca Research Has Caught It BOCA RATON, FLORIDA, U.S.A., 1996 SEP 12 (NB) -- By Bob Woods. Boca Research Inc. [NASDAQ:BOCI] said it is not only joining the pack of modem manufacturers and technology companies developing 56 kilobits-per-second (Kbps) analog modem technology, but it intends to lead it as well. Other companies already announcing the speedy technology include Rockwell International [NYSE:ROK] and Hayes Microcomputer, while US Robotics [NASDAQ:USRX] still says it is not announcing anything on the subject, despite Wall Street rumors saying it is readying a launch. ======================================================================= Not surprisingly... 56,000 BPS Modem Technology, Not As Good As You Might Think FLEET, HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND, 1996 SEP 13 (NB) -- By Steve Gold. Contrary to what some news reports have been suggesting this week, the 56,000 bits per second (bps) modem technology that Hayes and US Robotics are touting is not as flexible as a standard V.34 (28,800 bits per second) analog modem. --- Blue Wave/Max v2.20 [NR]* Origin: Andy's BBS: Melb Australia - 61-3-357-3414 (3:635/503) SEEN-BY: 50/99 620/243 621/525 623/630 625/100 632/107 348 360 633/371 SEEN-BY: 634/388 396 635/301 502 503 506 541 544 639/252 711/401 409 410 413 SEEN-BY: 711/430 808 809 899 932 934 712/515 713/888 714/906 800/1 @PATH: 635/503 50/99 711/808 934 |
