ml> WINS??

WINS stands for WWIV Internet Network Support. Basically how WWIV
networking transitioned from dialup network transfers to Internet (ie.
BinkD).

The major breakthru recently is that Frank Reid located the very latest
WINS source code on SourceForge. I downloaded it and after making some
changes to a few of the modules, got it to compile using Visual Studio 2005
and we are now up and running a native WWIV network again.

The latest version allows SMTP on an alternate port - which is needed since
most ISPs block port 25.

Yes, WWIV still has that functionality today. It isn't sent in an email, however.

In WWIV, you can set a message area to "Require Network
Validation". All inbound posts come back to the host and have to be
validated before they reach all the other systems.

I like that functionality, too. Used to use it all the time when hosting
areas years ago.
