>Anyone else have an opinion about SG1?

I like the show. I saw the first four seasons as broadcast on a local
station, and it was a show that I made the effort to watch (or tape if I
was working). Unfortunately, the fifth season was not really shown as the
station broadcasting the series showed the first four seasons in
syndication mixed in with season five, and the TV guide was not clear what
episodes were being shown. The descriptions were too vague.

I thought that the characters were reasonably well done and they did
develop through the seasons I watched. I also liked the way they took a
lot from ancient history, and came up with ways to include various Egyptian
myths and gods (which, if I remember history right influenced Sumerian gods
which in turn influenced Greek/Roman gods and also led to the
Judeo-Christian-Moslem god). On the other hand, I found that the second
stargate and little bits and pieces of this universe starting to show up
strained credibility a lot. Then they got to shows set on starships, with
their own explanations on how the faster-than-light drive worked.

How was the fifth season anyway?

Of the other television shows mentioned:

SeaQuest DSV--never saw it, but based on the discussions so far, it sound
like the first season was interesting. They should come out with the DVD's
on this one.

Equalizer--never saw it

West Wing--I'm not an American so a drama set in the White House has
absolutely no interest for me, no matter how well written.

Space Above and Beyond--another one that they should come out with the
DVD's so that I could watch it for the first time.

Firefly--I saw about two episodes of this. It was interesting, and might
have been a more character-driven show. They came up with an interesting
idea to avoid all the wrinkly-nose-funny-forehead aliens by not having any
aliens at all. Old-fashioned guns on a space opera looked funny too. This
show was described as a "western set in space," and the barroom
brawl scene that opened the first show proved that to me. I wish that Fox
would take the episodes that were produced and the unseen pilot (I don't
think it was broadcast locally) and put them on DVD.

Crusade--Never saw it. Maybe when the Babylon 5 DVD sets are done, they'll
do this one. How long did this show run for? There were four Babylon 5
movies? I was aware of two of them (the ones on the DVD release last
year).

Enterprise--I make time to watch this show or tape it. I get the feeling
that Breman and Braga don't do characters well, and instead of shaping the
stories to fit the characters, they fit the characters to the story. That
was the impression I got watching Hoshi in "Vanishing Point," and
"Dawn" was almost an embarrassment, especially the extended fight
scene. Somebody should have done a rewrite on that story to hide the plot
holes big enough to hide an asteroid belt in. I watch the show for
entertainment purposes, having already decided that as far as I am
concerned, it exists entirely outside of the continuity. They're going to
bring the Borg into Enterprise in an upcoming episode? I'm pretty sure that
if this show runs seven seasons, the last few are going to be involved with
a war (DS9 has already done that, so why do it again, and yet, we know that
the Romulan War did happen), and I find it impossible that nobody will ever
see a Romulan face during this conflict. Another irritant... they keep
bringing in new alien races, ones never seen again although all of this is
happening in what will become the heart of the Federation. The temporal
cold war works to a point, but I think the series is at its best when
dealing with established races. I'm still waiting for the Tellarites.
Notice how they have completely avoided the Alpha Centauri issue.

That's my little ramble for tonight.
