Thinking back to the good old days and doing some reminiscing, I remember the
wildcat version 5 release. Think it was 1997 or 1998, Anyway Wildcat BBS
Software has always used a door for netmail. With WC4 we had a choice of
several front end mailers, Most sysops used Wildmail by Joe (cant remember last
name) We all cursed it but.. And there was Platinum Xpress by Hector Santos,
not the most popular but it worked well.

From what i understand when WC5 was released most third party programmers were
not ready with the exception of Hector Santos. So if you were running WC5 you
were stuck with PXW for the mail tosser. Meanwhile Mustang Software (MSI) the
once popular Wildcat bbs software company started going under and the program
had lots of features that were never ported over from the WC4 days, One being a
netmail door. Hector Santos whipped one up that would work with his OPX Packet
style Offline Reader Silver Xpress.

About this time sysops were finding out that WC5 like night and day from WC4
would need a ton of ram and a fast cpu to run on, And Windows 95 was the only
os it would operate on was as buggy as WC5!

A lot has changed since those days, Hector Santos bought the rights to WC5 from
Mustang and has done a fine job of improving it. Except enhancements have been
directed towards internet users, Now called Winserver the package is intended
for isp's and corporations needing a web solution that supports http, email,
ftp, and user accts. Hector last updated the front end and mail tosser in
06/2000 and no further ftsc development is being done.

There are other updates to Winserver available but nothing that will fix the
netmail problem. And we run a 3rd party program by Earl Borah called web
messaging pro which enhanced the Web interface of the bbs and added the QWK by
web browser option, It is no longer being developed either. So here we are :)

Doc's Place is running on my home network connected by cable modem. It has its
own dedicated Pentium 1.8 GHZ computer with a Gig of ram. Running under Windows
2k Professional. It stays up for weeks at a time without a re-boot. It has came
a long way since the early days..

Who ever thought the BBS Scene would still be around these days?
