Hello All,
Since the FidoNet node which "The Three Mooseketeers" frequents is
closing down, with this message I am starting to "gate" the MooseChat
message area to the alt.moose.rights UseNet newsgroup.
As mentioned in earlier messages, convincing ISP sysadmins to link up
to a new newsgroup named alt.moose.chat would have been difficult.
Meanwhile, I recently found that the practice of configuring alt.moose
as a place-holder (instead of as a useable message area) is more
widespread than I had thought. So, taking the path of least
resistance, it seems best to go with the alt.moose.rights newsgroup.
As with the alt.moose ng, alt.moose.rights has no regular participants
to be offended and our MooseChat messages will certainly be every bit
as appropriate as most of the recent alt.moose.rights messages on
archive.
Regarding my earlier concerns about UseNet reception of MooseChat
political satire. After I recently read Moore's _Stupid White Men_
and learned that his new book _Dude, Where's My Country?_ is also on
the best seller lists, I've realized that our humour has not been
that "over the top" after all. If Moore can have his books published
without getting lynched, we should not have any problems in an obscure
newsgroup.
By the way, since there were no objections, I still plan to "gate"
some of the more recent MooseChat messages that do not depend on
current events for their humour. (Aside from saving them for
posterity, this may help establish a moose-like atmosphere.) So, we
may see a few replies coming back quoting "older" messages which have
been re-dated during the "gating" process.
Onward and upward! ;-)
Yours in the Way of the Moose,
