Lean and mean. I had something like that going on a 486 not too long ago. It
had 64M total available to it but was using a fraction of that as long as it
wasn't compiling for itself. I forget what version of gcc it had but definetly
gcc-4 and gcc only (no g++ etc.) which would make it pre 4.8. Slow but rock
steady. I miss that machine.

I believe you. Neither are the current two running here as well as all past
machines I've ever had the pleasure of working with. They weren't all custom
jobs and of those most were stock Slackware installs although I did experiment
with FreeBSD occasionally back in the mid 1990's.
