When OMX came out, I was intrigued, but, as I had no intention of being
a point or a node, never bothered getting it.

If I use a magic spell regularly, there's no problem.  A kludge that is
either fairly unobtrusive, or which, like Dale's Y2K fix for QWK rep
packets, can be put into a batch file and run automatically, is also no
problem.  :)
