Well... Technically "CONNECT" is a string... :-)
This sounds to me like a fossil problem/telix setup mismatch somewhere.
Are you using a DOS/Win95 Fossil?
Do you have telix 3.51 (which added fossil support) using the fossil?
Is the fossil allowing other *DOS* programs to access the port?
I've just installed telix 3.22 here and it works 100% with the modem.
Make sure that EVERYTHING is set to the same speed. Say, 57,600 for a
locked speed in the fossil (if used), telix terminal settings, dialing
directlry and Windows Modem setup.
SOMETIMES mismatches can cause odd things to happen.
Keep giving us info, as this will help track down the cause.
