   Greetings,
RL> >Do you have any ideas about how computers can be used in the primary
RL> >school classroom. Should they be used only to enable students to
RL> >word process their writing or as a reward for students to play on
RL> >when they have finished early?????
There is another option. If the school were so inclined, it might
consider allowing the computers to be hooked up to a modem (with a
Sysop (Systems Operator) to to moderate the activity. There are
Internet accounts (for a fee) and, there are also specialized Networks
    available for free.
I run a free system devoted to the children of the First Nations
(Indians) which is a forum for learning about the Native American
cultures (542+ recognized nations/tribes). It is a means of extending
the classroom into a specialized area. There are many reasons why this
method of learning would be essential to the growth of our children.
However, the popint is that there are a number of other ways in which
the children can use a computer and still have fun with others. :)
I am also the N.Y.S. HUB for Native Network (worldwide), Fidonetwork
and provide (currently) 17 local Native Children's conferences.
    Sorry...no games here:)
