Try using it at a few of your friends places (still set on ATX4) as I

found with US/Canada Courier modems that my abiltiy to detect busy or

dial tones varied with different types of exchanges here in Brisbane.

There are about 4 types of exchanges used around me, one will cause my

modem to detect busy and not dial, one will detect dial and not busy,

one will detect dial and busy, and yet another will cause my modem to

think that the STD pips are a busy singal and hang me up.

All this while keeping my modem set to the same settings and just

moving it to differnt friends houses in different suburbs around

Brisbane.

I am on an System12 exchange now and all is OK in that department.
