Good Lord... him and my dad.
He sharpens the knives as though they'd be called upon to cut diamonds at
any moment.
When he wanted to get me some good knives he was having a heck of a time
deciding what sort to get because he wouldn't be around to keep them sharp.
He finally decided on some Henckle serrated "Eversharp" knives. But of
course he had to test just how sharp they were, so while he was in the store
he told the salesperson he wanted to test them -- she went off to find
something to cut, but dad ran it across the ball of his thumb, and promptly
started spurting blood. When the salesperson came back she stood there
open-mouthed and dad calmly stated "They're sharp enough, I'll take these"
Thankfully he cleaned off the blood before I got them for Christmas. :)
They're still sharp too. (12 - 14 years later...)
