They go out to the pump, unlock the cover and adjust the price. The pump calculator takes care of the rest. :o) Of course, you meant; How could they dare to raise the price of fuel they've already got in the tank? It's kinda like when your stock portfolio contains stocks that you paid a higher price for than the current market price. If the current price is lower than you paid, you buy more to offset the cost of the higher priced stocks you presently own. If the current price of your stock is higher, you sell or maintain your present holdings. Overall, ideally you're padding your loss by buying at the lower cost or you're selling for profit. That's how it works in the gas industry too, only in reverse.
