ZR> Sharon, we were up your way this summer for a vacation (we called it
ZR> an adventure) and really loved Washington state... and I am
ZR> wondering what the laws about homeschooling are in your state, just in
ZR> case I ever decide to
ZR> move there.
Washington is one of the 'growing homeschool' trend. There was a
news segment out on Monday night or Tuesday night on channel 11
about homeschoolers and how homeschooling is becoming more popular
here because people are dissatisfied with public schooling or for
religious reasons. Where I live in Tacoma (Pierce County actually)
there is strong homeschooling support groups. Actually I just
received one tonight for Clover Creek Bible fellowship and their
support group. They also have crusader fridays where they have
classes for each age group to give the parents a bit of a break and
to allow kids of like ages to get together. Some parents register
with the district as either an independent school complete with name
or they register with the district to use the district's supplies.
ZR> (Also wondering about Oregon homeschool laws, in case anyone knows.)
ZR> Zaynab
Not sure of Oregon although I know they have some. I can easily
find out I think. There should be a homeschool page(s) on the
internet. If you go to Http://www.yahoo.com/ and do a search
'homeschool' you should find quite a bit there. They should have a
list of each state on whom to contact about what homeschool
guideline is in each state. Right now I cannot remember it.
If you go to http://www.dejanews.com/ and do a search on homeschool
it will lead you to one or 2 homeschool newsgroups that are not on
fido but on the I-net.
Have fun and good luck.
