CB>THE MORE THINGS CHANGE...
CB>"Students today depend upon store bought ink. They don't know how
CB>to make their own. When they run out of ink they will be unable
CB>to write words or ciphers until their next trip to the
CB>settlement. This is a sad commentary on modern education."
CB>The Rural American Teacher, 1929
Make their own ink? Trip to the settlement? This seems
out of place in 1929....
CB>"Students today depend upon these expensive fountain pens. They
CB>can no longer write with a straight pen and nib (not to mention
CB>sharpening their own quills). We parents must not allow them to
CB>wallow in such luxury to the detriment of learning how to cope in
CB>the real business world, which is not so extravagant."
CB>PTA Gazette, 1941
Quills?! In 1941?!? Stranger and stranger....
CB>Can you predict what tomorrow's argument will be?
Did anyone actually look to see if these quotes are really
as advertised? I have some serious questions as to their
validity (although they DO make a nice series).... ;-)
