Definitely turn that "feature" off. There are many tales of woe
floating around in the XP groups of people who automatically downloaded
a security update from MS (Q 811493) that subsequently slowed down their
system or caused it not to boot. MS has acknowledged the problems and
has issued a warning about it.
Automatic updating from the MS site is nice if everything MS did was
correct and did not cause other problems...
Regards.
