Many people do, that's true. But I've noticed that many of the same
groups that say that are still quick to use it to protect their
interests when they find themselves in the minority. The far right
comes to mind, for example.

I didn't know he was the first one. I know we were created a Republic
by a bunch of men who mostly didn't even believe in democracy, but I
didn't know Wilson was the first to call it that.
