It's completely safe; I use it myself to indicate what the mailer does, and
to check for online/offline nodes.

Well, not real 'confused'. The only thing is that users always are
'available for chat'. So if they're in the door, and someone pages them, a
page goes out, which might confuse the paging person. But for the rest,
there is no problem with this method.
