It sounds like some of the document contains tables. From the table menu,
turn on "gridlines". If indeed you have tables, then this will turn on a
dotted outline, delineating the cells of the table. I believe this is the
way that Word handles conversion of some forms of Wordperfect columns.
You can get rid of the table, by using the table option to convert to text.
However, be cautious in doing so. Word does a good job of converting
Wordperfect documents to the nearest equivalent layout form.
If you have tables, then the "bugs" will not print. Check print preview to
confirm that these are really just paragraph markers in tables, and not some
form of character. You should not be able to view them in print preview.
