Hi Wemdy,
WB> That makes sense. I didn't know you could use spools on the

Yes, you have to put a little cap on them so the thread doesn't get
caught in the notch. Also helps prevent the spool from flying off. As
much serging as I've done this past year or so, I'm getting to be pretty
good at learning these little tricks. Guess I'm getting to be a sergin'
general.(G)
WB> I bought a cone because I needed some 100% polyester thread

WB> use it and had to wait several days till I could get to the

Think you have one problem licked and another shows up! I got some
fabric at House of Fabrics last year on their sell out sale. Grabbed a
couple of spools of the color thread I needed for that, and another
project. Got home to work on the other project, found the thread I got
was buttonhole twist. Now, first, who would use that on cotton, and
second, who uses dark green enough for 2 spools worth? DUH! That'll
teach me not to look at the thread better.
WB> I imagine that would save a lot. I don't sew a lot but I'm
WB> starting to more, and I think I'll just invest in one of the
WB> small adapters. The tall one I don't have room for. It's
WB> less money but it just won't work here. My space is very
WB> confined.
The smaller one wasn't available when I got mine. Looking at pictures
of them I saw that mine was missing a part (and the package was
sealed!), a small rod that went thru the cone to hold it steady on the
base. I just cut a dowel that was the right diameter the length of the
cone.
WB> Wish it were otherwise but there just is not room for much in
WB> this place. The house has such small rooms! If it weren't for
I know. We've had some places where we could hardly turn around. A
couple of them I had to sew on the kitchen/dining table and clear off at
every mealtime. We have a fair sized master bedroom here but by the
time I get my sewing stuff in, the room shrinks.
WB> I wanted to knock walls out and make the 3 small bedrooms into
WB> two larger ones, then add a family room, but that didn't work
WB> out because Tom was laid off for so long, we went through all
WB> our savings and his IRA just to live the past 5 years. But we
WB> can live with the house the way it is, so for now all we do is
WB> grin at one another and say, "Maybe someday..." 8-) We have
WB> been blessed at every turn and it would be ungrateful to be
WB> constantly dissatisfied with what we've been given.
Yes, it's good you had the money to live off of while he was off work
though. Keep saying "one of these dyas..." and keep planning; now that
he's back at work, the possiblility of remodeling may be a reality a bit
further down the road. (Make friends with a contracter who needs
computer help and barter it!)
Well, I've got to get going on the sewing. Rachel is getting impatient
with my progress so far.
Catch you later,
Ruth
