In comparing speaker cables in my system I tried the original issue
Monster Cable that I have been using for over five years, Kimber Kable (PBJs,
I
believe my friend called them, and Tara Labs RSC 1000. The Monster Cable and
the Tara Labs was in 12 ft lengths, and the Kimber Kable was 10 ft.
The difference was not a "bash you over the head with an oil soaked
2x4" difference. But instead was one most noticable in the mids and highs
in a string quartet CD, and two Tori Amos vocal CDs (Winter...special release
5 songs), and finally three songs by Kansas where their vocal harmony is
really excellent. Bass seemed the same between all three. At least I couldn't
hear a single bit of difference. But the Tara Labs had a more brilliant- -
less
masked sound in the vocal mids and lower treble than either the Monster Cable
or the Kimber Kable, that gave the vocals and strings a more vivid sound and
image. The sound stage was the same, as best as I could hear.
Perhaps the comparison isn't fair as Monster has several grades
over/better than what I tested, as does Kimber Kable. Just of the three that
I had hooked to my system....there was those two undeniable differences, that
were very pleasing. Now, whether they were worth the $200, check with me in
a couple years.
Thanks for your comments and observations.
BTW: Of all your experiences, what artist/group was the most fun to work
for/with?
Cheers, John
