subject: Forcing HST

I wanted to experiment with something tonight; namely, forcing an HST connect
with David Drummond's Courier. My FidoNet mailer allows me to configure it
so that extra modem commands will be issued if it finds a certain node
number or nodelist flag in the system it's dialling.

I entered ATB1| for David's node address so that said command would be
issued prior to dialling his system. However, I achieved a 31.2k V.34
connection; no HST. From what I can gather, I would need to disable V.34,
V.FC, V.32terbo et al. in order to force HST.

Can anyone shed any light on the subject? Of course, nowadays, forcing HST
is not really advantageous for me, but I'd like to do so to see what it's
like.

I have found that locking my modem so that it connects at 14400/V34 is
useful when calling a certain node in Canada which I make semi-regular
contact with. Possibly forcing HST connects to other DS Couriers will be
beneficial too.

Comments welcome.
