There's a lot of Bluetooth, zigbee and wifi junk around that pushes you
towards its own app. Before buying such things you should do some research
as to what's inside and whether other people have hacked it. Often they use
common platforms (eg ESP8266 for wifi) and there's either reverse engineered
protocols or replacement firmware.

In this case the device seems to be called an iTag, and if you google that:

https://thejeshgn.com/2017/06/20/reverse-engineering-itag-bluetooth-low-energy-
button/
https://revspace.nl/AntiLost
https://github.com/sylvek/itracing2/issues/5

suggesting they're a simple BLE beacon with a button. I'm not very familiar
with the BLE world but that second link suggests they can be paired with a
BLE software stack if you build such a thing on your Pi (or other machine).
