I listen to local radio talk shows a lot, and all of the stations have
airtime free cellular numbers. It's very rare to hear a cell phone
caller on the air who sounds any worse than the landline callers. When I
drive around the metro Pittsburgh area, I seldom have less than
three out of five bars on my signal strength meter, except for a few
deep valleys or when I'm way out in the boonies. And that's on a crappy
little Panasonic EBH63 phone. My wife's Motorola Teletac gets even
better reception.
But like I said earlier, even though the 3 watt mobile phones do sound
better, I have very few customers who only use their phones in their
cars. I get at several inquiries a week about upgrading from a built-in
or bag phone to a portable, but I've never had a portable phone user
want to move to a 3 watt phone.
At least half of my usage is when I'm somewhere other than in my car. I
also use three different cars on a regular basis. There's no way I could
use a 3 watt phone.
