Hi Linda, BJ> If no switches are specified, then SILT defaults LH> to generating everything except the Max 2.x-compatible area files. LH> This is an example of exactly why I don't like most LH> upgrades. Too much gets changed, not always for the LH> better. This is one time, I guess I will HAVE to LH> upgrade, like it or not. Why do programmers not listen LH> to their users? I think you misunderstand. Scott certainly DID listen to his followers, he provided a new version with a lot of extra features and capabilites that those people using it wanted, BUT he also provided EVERYTHING you need to run Max 3 exactly as if it was MAX 2! If you want to use MAX 3 as a MAX 2 system, then you need to change almost NOTHING, the upgrade is totally transparent to the users! The SILT switches -2a -2u or -2s are all optional, unless you have an explicit need for SILT to produce the Max 2 control files (IE other specific S/W you run can't read the Max 3 files), the Max 3 files will be produced. Surely that can't be too difficult? With Max 3 you gain by using improved code that WILL continue to be supported through the Y2K issue, and you just may find a Max 3 feature that provides better service than the previous version. Its been a few years since Max 3 was released but I can't ever remember anything that was taken away or FORCED you to change after the MAX 2 to Max 3 upgrade was performed, a Max 3 install performs an automatic upgrade of S/W and allows you to keep your existing configuration without any change. I would say that 90% of your users will not notice a thing! Take a backup of your system and try it, I am sure it will be a fairly painless affair.......pk. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Another Good Point About OS/2 (3:772/1.10) SEEN-BY: 396/1 632/0 371 633/260 267 270 284 371 634/397 635/506 725 728 SEEN-BY: 639/252 670/218 @PATH: 772/1 270/101 396/1 633/260 635/506 728 633/267 |
