Hi Kris,

KR> Could someone explain to me the difference between baud rates and
KR> bps. I'm told that they have different meanings, but no-one will tell
 KR> me why.

BPS stands for Bits Per Second. As you probably already know there are 8 bits
to 1 byte. Bits are binary. I thought BPS and baud rates were the same. They
both show how many bits your modem can send in a second.

KR> Secondly, this new 56kbps modem from Rockwell (and their
KR> associates)...why a split rate? Why recieve at 56k and send at 33.6?
KR> I thought we gave up the idea of split rate modems ten years ago.

That'd be stupid, because the person sending to you would be only sending 33.6K
and therefore you could only receive 33.6K a second. Unless your using the
internet of course.
