subject: Cables & Stuff ???

Hi John!
->
 First, I must say that I recently replaced my old (original)
-> Monster Cable speaker cables with a pair of name brand, semi
-> expensive speaker cables. We set up a semi-blind test of these two
-> and a third set of cables (Kimber) on loan from a friend. Much to my
-> surprise there was a big difference between the Monster Cables and
-> the other two. The Monster Cable seemed to sound less brilliant and
-> exacting in the mid-range and treble. So, at least with my system,
-> and the music I listen to..... there is a difference.
Interesting results of your test. What cables did you end up with and
Jwhat is supposed to be so special about them?
-> To that end I have a question about the wiring inside the gear.
-> Is there a difference between multistrand wire and solid core wire of
-> the same diameter and insulation in conductivity and possible noise?
-> Would rewiring the inside of an amp with a bigger and better
-> quality wire make a difference that one can hear?
Will state that as yes. but perhaps not one can hear. It's the weakest
link in a chain type of thing determines how good good can be.
-> Is there a difference between the old fashion pot metal binding
-> posts and the brass and gold plated ones of today...if the old ones
-> are clean? Is the less corrosive(sp?) nature of the gold plating the
-> only advantage?
My philosophy is to use the shortest lengths possible of the best and
biggest conductors (stranded) with as few connectors, solder joints,
connectors and other breaks, transitions as possible from the
power amp output transistors to the speaker coil.
-> Thank you in advance for your comments.
No charge, John! I have some copy around here from the Monster folks
that I've been meaning to put up on the echo but it's another
"roundtoit" at this moment. Might be time to put it up. Also just got
off of Carver looking around at their current line.
