-= Pete Replied to Ray Mcconnell about: Modem Speed? =-

G'day Ray

 PC> I've had 286's with 8250 UARTS handling sustained 115200 baud
PC> throughput without problem, I've been told a decent XT will also
 PC> handle that speed.

 RM> This was on my friend's 486 with a 28.8K Courier and an 8250
RM> UART. It got data overruns every 10-20 seconds.

Did your friend have smartdrv installed with write caching enabled
perhaps, A 486 with 8250 UART's should be able to handle a 28k8
connect running plain DOS without problem, The every 10-20 seconds
sounds like it could have been smartdrv flushing it's write cache.

     Pete.
