MEX is the Maximus programming language -- as distinct from MECCA, the
display-file shorthand.

It seems to be a viable language; as a spirtual exercise, Dudley took a lot
of the Max functions out of the executable and turned them into MEX
scripts. Very impressive, on the whole.

MEX mostly resembles C, with features gleefully ripped from whatever took his fancy.
