Not that I know for sure about gentoo, there are dependencies that can be
dropped without any harm to the total end result. Case in point is the
addition of python3 and a couple of it's offshoots to a basic LFS build. Those
can be safely skipped over but I get the impression that it might cause some
grief later on if the more needy xorg and the ilk are of interest.
In my case 144 'packages' is all I will be using in the immediate future. One
of them is python2 which glib, and hence mc, require. I could learn to live
without mc and that would rid me of those two dependencies given nothing else
absolutely needs them.
