=-> Quoting Kenneth Newman to Martin Ridgley:
KN> Beethoven wrote his famous Triple Concerto so as to showcase the
KN> piano playing of his patron's son. The fact that his patron's son
KN> couldn't play diddly merely presented him with the challenge of
KN> how to write a piece that is complex and exciting and showcases
KN> a piano yet has a piano part which is fantastically simple to play.
KN> In that or any other context it's a work of genius, perhaps because
KN> of its constraints. _Islands_ is also great in part because of its
KN> constraints and limitations.
Excellent point. With all this talk about it, I almost wish I had a
copy of it here to listen to now. ;-(
MR> At the time the album didn't do much for me. It might now, but I
MR> lost my vinyl copy in the late 70s sometime and never replaced it.
KN> Fripp did a real nice job with the definitive edition CD.
KN> Worth owning, IMO.
Most of those re-mastered editions are reasonably priced around here,
so maybe I'll add that one to my collection.
Cheers,
Martin
