sorry, i forgot to mention that.
my biggest problem with *.mem were constructions like 
REST FROM (i_z+user_nr+".mem")
or even better
SAVE ALL LIKE P_* TO (i_z+"HP_LASER.DRV")
in many variations. 
quite silly, but now my source (2MB,75 files) is much cleaner :-)
