| subject: | Which modem? |
Gery, at 22:17 on Oct 06 1996, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... GR> I plane to join in near future the internet. As my modem is GR> a 9.6 I'll have to upgrade. The big question is which modem? GR> I had my eye on a Dynalink 33.6 as the price seem good. But GR> then I saw messages reporting of some problems with this model. Interesting that USR have already started replacing the faulty EPROMs on these modems, yet Dynalink refuse to acknowledge that the problem even exists, even though it's the same bloody modem. Who'd buy another Dynalink now? GR> As I can't ask you which modem I should buy, I'll ask GR> you which modem you would buy for your self, if you would GR> only connect to BBS's and an ISP (no IRC) and have the GR> occasional direct transfer of files (modem to modem). Price GR> of curse matters. I recently bought 2 x KTX 33k6 modems, one each internal and external, and although they lack many features which more expensive modems have (and most of us will never use anyway), they still perform as well as any other inexpensive Rockwell clone. And at around $160, they are extremely good value IMO.
