Responding to a message by Matt, to Charles on ...
MS>I'm a collections lawyer, so I couldn't give you any cite on this.
Fair enough.
MS>But I'd never advise any client of mine to do
MS>_anything_ that could be construed as practicing law
MS>without a license, because if someone followed the
MS>client's advice and got in a mess, you can bet he'd sue the
MS>client if the client was some kind of government official
MS>(cop, teacher, etc.).
Unless this relates back to the discussion on teachers advising parents
that their child's misbehavior may require medical attention in some
fashion that I don't see, it looks to me like you've moved on to another
topic. We were NOT discussing teachers practicing law without a license.
MS>But defending the lawsuits is costly, even if the
MS>district is almost sure to win them. Why risk it? That's
MS>what I'd tell a client.
Why open the schools to teach at all? If everything we say and do is
subject to a lawsuit, perhaps we should all go hide our heads in the
sand. Or, perhaps we should do the right thing - advise parents as to
our concerns over learning or behavior patterns and let the law worry
about itself.
