He married Susan Cooper (author of the Dark Is Rising series and 
many others) 

Why would it be "odd" that he married again two years after his wife's
death? I thought it was evidence of how some people manage to live so
long - they never stop being alive.

He had a right to seek happiness, companionship, and comfort. There's
nothing odd in that.
