Here is the process to do a similar migration using Ubuntu:

Power down P4/1.5 computer, move hard disk to new computer, power on.

Here is the process to optionally have both systems running when you are all done:

Boot new computer from _any_ bootable linux live CD. Ensure that you know
the IP address and that sshd is running and that you can ssh into a root
capable account and that the new computer's drive is the same size or
larger than current system's drive. On old computer, run the following
command:

`dd if=/dev/hda of=- | ssh root{at}ip.address.of.second dd if=- of=/dev/hda`

Alternatively, if rsync is available on both the live CD and on the source
system, mount the new hdd as /mnt/hda run:

`rsync -a / root{at}ip.address.of.second:/mnt/hda`

Or you could physically move the new drive into the old system for as long
as a copy would take.

When you boot, the system detects the hardware. If something doesn't
detect, there are ways to force a redetect and configuration.

Note that we could also do this same type of migration using OS2 back in
the dark ages of 1994 simply using an xcopy /h/o/t/s/e/r/v.
