Still running Max 2.01b here, and this works well here:
% in EXEBBS.bat prior to the start of each call to MAX: if exist
\max\baud.bbs del \max\baud.bbs
% at the top of LOGO.MEC:
[log];Caller at %b bps [open]\max\baud.bbs [write]Your connect speed was
detected as %b bps. [open]\nul
% Then in WELCOME.MEC, include this line, whereever you'd like the message:
[link]baud
Thus, the first part writes a message to disk containing the user's baud
rate. Then the message is read back from disk and displayed to the caller.
What's interesting is that sometimes the modem on one end claims to connect
at a slightly higher or lower rate than the one the other end.
