  This appears to be a weakness of many distributions.   No rollback copy
is kept.    You have to manually install the previous version with RPM or
an equivalent.  A recent QT update hosed KDE.

   Bottom line for me is
   1.) No automatic updates
   2.)  Watch security bulletins.   Update a single package manually if
necessary.   It's easier to roll back a single package and its dependencies
than a wholesale update.
  3.)  Periodically, back up everything with an image backup, then do a
wholesale update and test.

    This happens to be exactly what I do today for WindowsUpdate because I
don't trust the process.   The only difference is that rolling back an
update that doesn't hose the system is easier in Windows because there's an
entry in Add/Remove programs.
