As you presumably know, RCS will keep multiple revisions of a
file into a safe spot, normally in a subdirectory off your
working directory. CVS takes this further, and keeps all your
revisions in one spot, ideal for backups, and ideal for not
having your multiple revisions spread over millions of working
directories. This allows you to blow away your working directory
on the D drive, and switch to the E drive, for example.
We use CVS at work to manage all the code that is going to control
