If you want to have something that 'just works' (can't imagine that with Linux,
but ...) look at distrowatch.com for top 5 and pick by your taste. If you want
a playground to learn some stuff about the Linux, I'd suggest you start with
Arch or Gentoo, then obviously move to LFS. Don't just read and follow LFS
book, but read, understand and create your own setup. This will teach you a lot
aboutthe OS and how it is built ...
