subject: What`s `HST` mean?

PW> So I'd go for the Courier over the V.everything then?
DD> The Courier _IS_ the V.Everything.

PW> Oh! So I'd buy a USR Courier V.everything then???

If you listened to these blokes, you'd buy three! :)

PW> Has the V.34+ standard been ratified by the ITU-T yet, cuz
PW> there sure are a lot of 33.6Kbps modems coming out now!
DD> It was included in the V.34 specs.

PW> ??? You mean the 33.6Kbps thing was in V.34 all along???

No, but refining the technology for those higher speeds wasn't difficult
(for billion dollar companies, anyway), and was probably well under way
when V.34 (1994) was ratified. Rockwell, Motorola etc weren't that far
behind, but no doubt it was a rewarding coup for USR - flash ROM technology
the clever move.

PW> Then why did USR call it V.34+ et al...???

It's called marketing, Paul. Works, too.

Ian
