Hi Raymond,
LH> Another question I want to ask, is there a way to
LH> post a general message to all users like {at}all? I tried
LH> that and it does not work.
RC> Here's how I do it. It might not be what you want. I
RC> set up a message area I call "System Bulletins" and add
RC> the following to my MAILCHEK.MEC:
RC> [white]Checking for System Bulletins.............
RC> [key_poke]local.3;
RC> [menu_cmd Msg_Area]
RC> [key_poke]cnr;
RC> [menu_cmd Msg_browse]
RC> ....where "local.3" in line 2 is the area as defined in
RC> my msgarea.ctl. You'll change it to whatever you have
RC> it named.
RC> Then, any time I want to leave a message to "all", I
RC> leave it in this particular area, which by the way is
RC> ReadOnly for everybody else. Each time a person logs
RC> on that area is scanned and any new messages are shown them.
RC> It works quite well, and I can leave messages
RC> everybody will see, and it's as simple as typing in a
RC> message. Plus, I have that area set up to delete
RC> messages over 14 days old, so I don't have to bother
RC> cleaning things up, as it's taken care of in my nightly
RC> maintenance when SQPACK runs. I've totally eliminated
RC> the bulletins that come with Maximus. I find my way easier and better.
RC> Don't forget to run MECCA.EXE on MAILCHEK.MEC after making changes.
I like that idea, but I am not sure about part of those commands. I
have mine setup real simple with no extra keys, etc. Everyone has to pass
the CBV, then upgraded to Normal. If they don't, they only see main menu
and bulletins, no files, no message areas. They can leave me a message or
yell for me.
I have some special bulletins that are displayed always, but I do have
a message area similar to what you have and it's read only, but I think I
want to change it. I like your idea.
