subject: Intake and exhaust ideas...

Hello All.

I own a very clean 1991 Geo Prizm (1.6L LSI engine). I'm in process of
slowly making performance mods to the engine's surrounding systems. I've
replace a leaking exhaust manifold with a Pace Setter header (which has
already made a considerable difference in performance.)

I need to get some views and ideas on a cold air intake system and the
actual exhaust system. I'd like to increase the exhaust system's working
diameter to 2" (50.8mm); much past that diameter I think I'll start
losing what little low-end torque I have. Opinions? There are 2 Magnaflo
cats available to fit. One looks radically different than the
"flat" one the car uses now. It appears to not have any mounting
flanges in the pictures I've been able to get from the internet. Since the
piping leading up to it will be stainless, I wonder how much of a problem
it will present if welding is required? (I'm not familiar with advanced
welding techniques.)

The "stock" cold air intakes I've seen are short; I can't see how
or where they'd get "cold" air from, with the intake
"scoop" sitting right next to the engine. I've seen only two,
one from Weapon R and the other company escapes me at the moment, but it
also looks to be quite short. Any opinions on this? I've considered
moving the battery to the trunk and custom fitting a mandrel bent aluminum
tube (about 3" (76.2mm) diameter) up to the front grille. Or perhaps
into the fender well at the side. Got any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks folks...

Best regards,
Marc
